Julie & Julia

I’ve seen this movie 3 times in the past 2 weeks 😀 and is definitely one that I liked very much. Starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams, the movie released in 2009. The stories of Julie Powell(Year:2002, a government employee with a dull job who loves cooking) and Julia Child(Year:1940, Retiree from a Govt job who begins attending cooking classes and eventually writes a cookbook) are beautifully woven together. Julie lives with her husband in a rundown apartment in Queens and decides to take on the challenge of Cooking every recipe in Julia’s ‘Mastering the Art of French Cooking’ in a span of 1 year and blogging about it. The movie talks about the similarities in the lives of the two women and their challenges. Julia Child comes across as a tall Woman, full of energy and infinite patience and as she herself says in the movie “There could be very few people who don’t like her” :). The movie ends with Julia celebrating with her husband in the kitchen,as she receives the first copy of her book in print, and  Julie and her husband visiting the same kitchen.

Try to see the movie if you haven’t.. and let me know what You think about it too!

  1. Wow! You really liked it! I thought it was OK. It was fun, it put a smile on my face, it was cute but nothing spectacular. It seemed a bit too overdone with the whole ‘true story’ thing. Streep was great but Adams brought some energy to her character that made her seem a bit annoying at times. She was still good though. I can only hope my blog can be as good!

  2. @aculturedlad: I think its the kind of movie you can certainly watch more than once and it’ll probably put a 🙂 on your face each time. Streep was excellent-so much energy. I agree it seemed a bit overdone with the True Story thing-i was reading about the real Julie/Julia project, and they say Julia never liked the idea of Julie blogging about her and the recipes!
